Calvi accueille ses seizièmes Rencontres de
Chants Polyphoniques du 14 au 18 septembre. Des groupes
régionaux et originaires du monde entier autour d'une
même volonté : faire partager leurs cultures
traditionnelles.
l'heure où de nombreux touristes ont déjà
abandonné la Corse pour la pollution et le stress
continental, l'île reprend le temps de vivre. Loin des
festivals de l'été, animés et
surexcités, place désormais à une autre forme
de culture, sincère et authentique, à l'image de cet
événement. Les Rencontres de Chant
Polyphoniques de Calvi invitent maintenant depuis seize
ans, une sélection de groupes vocaux venus du monde
entier et bien sûr de la Corse.
Parmi le vaste panorama des groupes invités, on voyage aux
antipodes avec les Voix de la Géorgie, avec
Salem Tradition, de la Réunion,
Okna Tsahan Zam, venus de Kalmoukie ( c'est
à coté de la Mongolie, petite note culturelle ici), l'ensemble
Tirana d'Albanie, ou encore cette rencontre
ensoleillée Toto Bona Lokua entre les
Antilles, le Cameroun et la R.D. du Congo. La culture corse trouve
aussi une place de choix dans ces rencontres avec
l'Alba, Barbara Furtuna, Antoine Ciosi,
Isulatine et les balanin A Filetta.
Le festival prend ses quartiers dans des lieux chargés de
mémoire, pour en diffuser une autre, celles de ces cultures
si différentes dont les artistes veulent continuer à
leur donner une existence et perpétuer ainsi leurs
traditions. Le projet Di Corsica Riposu "Requiem
pour deux regards ", porté à l'origine par le
Festival de Saint Denis en est le parfait exemple. Le groupe
A Filetta y fait renaître des requiems
traditionnels issus du patrimoine oral insulaire chantés en
polyphonie. Il faut préciser que le groupe est ici chez lui
et prend une part importante dans l'organisation même du
festival avec l'association "U Svegliu Calvese". Cette
dernière, à l'origine du festival s'implique elle
aussi constamment dans la promotion et la diffusion de la culture
insulaire.

"Afin de perpétuer l'héritage des chants
polyphoniques et de l'ouvrir à d'autres cultures partageant
la même expression polyphonique, l'association U Svegliu
Calvese en collaboration avec le groupe de chanteurs polyphoniques
A Filetta, a crée ses rencontres en 1988. Elles sont
aujourd'hui un rendez-vous musical d'une grande qualité
où se croisent et s'entremêlent les voix de chanteurs
venus du monde entier : mongoles, inuits, tibétains,
sud-africains, cubains, sardes... Au delà de son envergure
internationale, cet événement met en valeur tout
l'espace et l'architecture de la haute-ville dont le cœur bat
au rythme de concerts, d'ateliers et de rencontres consacrés
à l'art du chant avec un grand C."

Retour à Calvi ce mercredi 15 septembre
2004 pour un premier concert à la Cathédrale
du groupe féminin Isulatine Né en 1998, Isulatine
réunit Antoinette d'Angeli, Elisabeth Andreani et Letizia
Giuntini. Ces trois jeunes femmes issues du jazz ou du chant
traditionnel (Letizia a vécu toute son enfance à
Lumio à côté du Carubbu cher à A
Filetta)...ont déjà chanté ensemble dans
différentes formations (Anghjula Dea) autour d'une
même passion pour le chant. Comme le laisse présager
le nom du groupe (Isula+latine), leur répertoire
témoigne d'une volonté d'ouverture et se compose
d'une palette de chants d'horizons très
différents.
Leur concert reprend en majeure partie les morceaux de leur
album Sogni d'Aprile enregistré en avril 2003, des
créations en langue corse et des chants traditionnels d'ici
ou d'ailleurs (un morceau jazz, une berceuse géorgienne, une
paghjella, une nanna).
Le soir, deux concerts : tout d'abord de nouveau Les Voix
de Géorgie. Le concert s'est terminé sur ... Dio Vi
Salvi Regina chanté avec A Filetta !
Puis venait Okna Tsahan Zam (Kalmoukie). Autre moment
étonnant que de découvrir le chant diphonique issu du
chant mongol traditionnel.

But while Corsica, like any other flourishing European
destination, receives its fair share of mainstream American and
European pop music, Corsica's own music is subtly different from
the material that washes over it from France, Italy and beyond.
Much of Corsica's sacred, traditional (and even some popular)
music is based on an ancient musical form called "Polyphony".
You may be lucky enough to hear a sung mass in a mountain village
church; you could attend a concert in the auditorium in Pigna or
you could just find yourself listening to the haunting melodies of
Corsica's best known band, i muvrini, in a bar. Most of
i muvrini's music is original, but the subtle cadences in
the vocals are resonant of Corsican Polyphony.
It's difficult to describe this complex and haunting music in
words. To British or Irish ears, Corsican music can sound
Eastern rather than European, but different people react to it in
different ways.
You may be able to order a CD from the World Music section of
your favourite music store or from an online store like
Amazon.co.uk (link right). And of course, make sure you
listen out for it when you visit the island!
Corsicans are proud of their musical traditions and if you hear
music you like in a restaurant, don't forget to ask your waiter the
name of the singer or band.
There is a Polyphony Festival each autumn in Calvi. In 2004,
many of the big names in polyphonic music took part, with
L'Alba prominent and A Filetta taking a
coordinating role. But the act I remember best was a
wonderful all-woman group called Isulatine: their
haunting melodies keep returning to me...

the Calvi Jazz Festival, held annually during the

The village of Pigna is perhaps the most important centre of
traditional music on the island. In 2000, the auditorium was
built there to welcome local polyphonic music performers - and
other musicians from all over the world. From 3rd to
13th July each year, there is a music festival called
ESTIVOCE, with outdoor concerts each evening in the streets and
squares. The concert programme is organised by an association
called FESTIVOCE - you can contact them via their website

イズラディーネ
（Isulatine） 1998年に結成された（写真左から）アントワネット･ダンジェリ、エリザベット・アンドレアニ、レディヅィア・ジュンティニの3女性からなるグループ。その最大の特徴はグループ結成以前は彼女たちは別々にジャズやゴスペルなどコルシカとは全く異なる音楽キャリアの持ち主であることで、ファーストアルバム「ソーニ・ダブリーレ（「4月の夢」の意）」にもジャズを思わせる曲が挿入されている。コルシカ語の詩をジャズで歌うというこれまでのポリフォニーには見られない斬新さが見られると同時に、コルシカの伝統を再現した歌もあり、そのコントラストが面白い。「イズラディーネ」はコルシカ語の造語で、「イズーラ（島）」と「ラディーナ（ラテンの女性、複数なのでラディーネ）」を組み合わせたもの。
